"You are What you eat"

Konnyaku for healthier Tomorrow!!

Perhaps more than ever today, the average person feels the forces of today's social pressure to excel in life. This is especially so for today's working women.

She must constantly balance:
- The demands of her time
- The need to live healthily
- The desire to be attractive and trendy

All these pressures correspond to proper nutrition, but the balance has yet to be completely found.

The FDA agrees that a major source of disease from an American lifestyle is the shortage of dietary fiber in its diet. This often results in obesity, constellation, arteriosclerosis, heart disease, diabetes, cancer, gallstones, and hemorrhoids.

In fact, it is a common notion that 2/3 of American are overweight and 1/3 are medically obese.

There is a reason why Japanese people are considered among the healthiest people in the world. Our diet consists of many healthy foods, such as fish, vegetables and fruits. However, there are foods unique to the Japanese diet, one being Konnyaku. Konnyaku's high fiber content makes it not only a tasty food but a healthy one as well.

The Tokyo Tapas Cafe

On September 1, 2008, SHOW LLC (Simple, Healthy, Organic, Wealthy) was established for the promotion and sale of KonnyakuThe first event for the company was held on October 9th,  using konnyaku sourced from the Gunma prefecture of Japan. At the kitchen studio of a high-end Manhattan supermarket, a Japanese restaurant chef introduced many new konnyaku recipes, such as for pasta and hamburger, and even konnyaku cooked escargot style.

Konnyaku Burger

The event space was small, accommodating only a maximum of 20 attendees, but the seminar conducted in three sessions was a well-attended success, and the feedback was positive for business expansion. Participants included chefs from American restaurants who are in a position to contribute to konnyaku’s expansion.
Very low in calories and high in fiber, there are opportunities for konnyaku  in the U.S. market, where health consciousness is growing. However, unlike tofu, which is accepted as a healthy food, Americans hardly know anything about konnyaku. Tofu, which is now sold in just about every supermarket and has been embraced by the American diet, was virtually unknown 20 years ago. The positioning that tofu enjoys today is thanks to the efforts of many who worked diligently for its acceptance. Unfortunately, no one has worked so hard over the past 10 to 20 years to promote konnyaku. A tremendous commitment is necessary to capture a market that is yet to be developed.

As a result The Tokyo Tapas Cafe was created to promote konnyaku in NYC to serve foods made with konnyaku, ultimately to introduce konnyaku products to the US.

Why Konnyaku?

Why I  started this blog:

Nice to meet you, My name is Sachiko.
There is no one in Japan who does  not know what Konnyaku is.

So, how is this traditional Japanese Konnyaku eaten in Japan?
What are they used for? How is it eaten? The answers are found in the Konnyaku
Diary.

I believe, that Konnyaku's amazing possibilities and health benefits will save those suffering from obesity and to become an important part of obesity prevention. It can also be eaten by anyone who strives live a healthier, more vibrant lifestyle.

Why is Konnyaku known as alleviate constipation?

Previously in No1, I told you that Konnyaku is made from Konnyaku potatoes.
Konnyaku is made from crushing the potato into a power and resolidifying by adding water. During this solidifying process, calcium coagulant is used.

Konnyaku that has been eaten remains undigested in the body. Because Konnyaku
contains indigestible dietary fiber, it remain in the intestine, increasing the feces volume. As a result, a signal is sent to the brain to release the remains in the bathroom. This is only one of the many benefits of Konyakku. Many more will be posted every week.
